The problem most FMGs face

In most Quebec FMGs, there are more physicians than offices. A typical FMG: 20-30 physicians, 10-15 offices. Physicians alternate. The manager has to decide each week who works in which office, taking into account:

  • Preferences (Dr. X always wants office 3 because it's close to her nurse).
  • Technical constraints (office 8 has the ultrasound machine, reserved for physicians who use it).
  • Fair rotation (not always the same physicians stuck with the back office).
  • Absences (if Dr. Y is on vacation, their office is free).
